Yin and Beyond 2020

A workshop looking at

the practice of yin yoga and Myofascial Release

12 hour workshop: 3 concurrent Sundays 10-2pm, October 25, Nov. 1 and Nov. 8, 2020.
 

 

This 3 part, 12-hour workshop series will take you through an understanding of the fascial system of the body and how it relates to our experience of trauma and pain. The principles of a yin yoga class will be developed along with in-depth discussion and practical, hands-on experience in adding myofascial release principles to enhance the experience and benefit of yin postures. The use of props, modifications for limitations and additional ways to enhance the yin experience and release of fascial structures will be explored.

care: beginners through yoga instructors

 

 

Yoga Alliance CEC recognized

10 in-person spots available at Yogashala, Waterdown with social distancing measures in place  First come first serve to reserve. (Subject to change according to ministry guidelines). Yogashala will provide sanitized yoga blocks and bolsters to in-person participants.

Part 1  Sunday October 25th 10-2pm

An introduction to the fascial body and the principles of myofascial release

Part 2 - Sunday November 1 10-2pm

A focus on Yin Yoga incorporating myofascial principles, specific yin sequencing and modifications with pranayama
Part 3 - Sunday November 8 10-2pm
Deepening the yin practice with ball-work, rebounding and unwinding

 

If working from home on Zoom You will need to provide:
your own bolster (large bed pillows or couch cushion can substitute)
large towel or blanket
small towel (hand towel size)
2-4 yoga blocks
yoga mat
a smile!
a dollar store ball, (4” inflatable)-  found in the children’s section of most dollar stores
a notebook and pen for journalling, note taking
water

Some partner work will be involved if you have someone available to be with you on zoom for short periods of time. This is preferred but not required as you will be guided in self-treatment experiences if a partner is not available.

In completing this workshop you will receive:

 

  • An understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the fascia and the basic principles of myofascial release in relation to yin yoga through both discussion and experiential work.

  • A deep knowledge of the principles of yin yoga, including its origins, the postures, setting the atmosphere and dialoging during class

  • Modifications and sequencing of postures enabling a customized approach for individuals’ needs.

  • Incorporating the use of Vayues during yin yoga

  • Hands on techniques for adding myofascial release to yin poses

  • The use of ball work during yoga to enhance fascial release

  • CEC certificate
